I never saw a purple cow
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow
I'd rather see than be one.
-- Gelett Burgess
Some artists often regret what becomes their most popular work. The Rembrandts with "I'll Be There For You," (also known as "the Friends themesong") Sheryl Crow and "All I Wanna Do" (also know as "the beer song") and Gelett Burgess with "The Purple Cow." Five years after writing this ... classic piece of poetry, he rejoined with this:
Ah, yes! I wrote the "Purple Cow"--
I'm sorry now, I wrote it!
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I'll kill you if you quote it!
That pretty much sums up the content of this page. Well, not really, but it makes you appreciate that just because it's popular, doesn't mean it's good! Of course, the things on my page are more commonly known works ... I'll try and infiltrate the more obscure things with time so no one thinks (right away) that I have *way* too much time on my hands!
Think on it, this is really where I start boring you with my own hideously boring taste. As a warning, I'm not condoning or condemning any things that are mentioned in any of the poems ... a lot of these things have hidden meanings in them and shouldn't be read without an open mind toward figuring out what is meant behind them. Of course, a lot of them mean simply what they mean, and shouldn't be read into. Let the reader use discernment! If you feel I'm missing an epic poem, by all means e-mail me and warn me of my mistake, I'll see about getting it up!
If you'd like to just get a rough overview of the poems you'll be reading, just go to the index, and you'll find them all there!
So with all disclaimers in mind, feel free to start reading here.
Thanks, and enjoy the ... urhm ... yeah. Enjoy!
